  • A Court of Frost and Starlight, Sarah J. Maas

Story Blurb Feyre, Rhysand, and their friends are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly altered world beyond, recovering from the war that changed everything. But Winter Solstice is finally approaching, and with it, the joy of a hard-earned reprieve. Yet even the festive atmosphere can't keep the shadows of the past from looming. As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, her concern for those dearest to her deepens. They have more wounds than she anticipated-scars that will have a far-reaching impact on the future of their court. Bridging the events of A Court of Wings and Ruin with the later books in the series, A Court of Frost and Starlight explores the far-reaching effects of a devastating war and the fierce love between friends. My Thoughts/Opinion I know some people find this book "less than" the others in this series, but I appreciated so much the breath I was able to take while reading it. Enjoying this story comes down to being invested in these characters and whether or not you want a glimpse into their lives behind the scenes of a major plot line. I loved how this book set up the next in series while allowing me to connect in POV with multiple major characters. Favorite Quote: “And in the end, though, we'd saved each other. All of us had.”

  • A Court of Wings and Ruin, Sarah J. Maas

Story Blurb Feyre has returned to the Spring Court, determined to gather information on Tamlin's actions and learn what she can about the invading king threatening to bring her land to its knees. But to do so she must play a deadly game of deceit. One slip could bring doom not only for Feyre, but for everything-and everyone-she holds dear. As war bears down upon them all, Feyre endeavors to take her place amongst the High Fae of the land, balancing her struggle to master her powers-both magical and political-and her love for her court and family. Amidst these struggles, Feyre and Rhysand must decide whom to trust amongst the cunning and lethal High Lords, and hunt for allies in unexpected places. In this thrilling third book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from Sarah J. Maas, the fate of Feyre's world is at stake as armies grapple for power over the one thing that could destroy it. My Thoughts/Opinion This book was the culmination of a waging war. Or at least I think so. We'll see I guess. The most epic of the three from a war perspective, and from a romantic perspective. I am 1000% here for both so this book jumped to my favorite. Favorite Quote: “It's a rare person to face who they are and not run from it - not be broken by it.”

  • A Court of Mist and Fury, Sarah J. Maas

Story Blurb Feyre has undergone more trials than one human woman can carry in her heart. Though she's now been granted the powers and lifespan of the High Fae, she is haunted by her time Under the Mountain and the terrible deeds she performed to save the lives of Tamlin and his people. As her marriage to Tamlin approaches, Feyre's hollowness and nightmares consume her. She finds herself split into two different people: one who upholds her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court, and one who lives out her life in the Spring Court with Tamlin. While Feyre navigates a dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms. She might just be the key to stopping it, but only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future-and the future of a world in turmoil. My Thoughts/Opinion Oh my. As much as I loved the first book, this one eclipsed it by a wide margin. Holy cow, I devoured this book. Feyre and her growth. Rhysand. Tamlin. Wow. Just Wow. I refuse to give spoilers, so suffice to say, I am in love with this epic story and all of the secondary characters that come in to play. So good!! Favorite Quote: “He thinks he'll be remembered as the villain in the story. But I forgot to tell him that the villain is usually the person who locks up the maiden and throws away the key. He was the one who let me out.”

  • A Court of Thorns and Roses, Sarah J. Maas

Story Blurb When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a terrifying creature arrives to demand retribution. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she knows about only from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not truly a beast, but one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled her world. At least, he's not a beast all the time. As she adapts to her new home, her feelings for the faerie, Tamlin, transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But something is not right in the faerie lands. An ancient, wicked shadow is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it, or doom Tamlin-and his world-forever. My Thoughts/Opinion I held out for quite some time before reading this series. Why? I don't know. Maybe I was afraid it was over hyped. I'm kicking myself now. This world is so incredibly written and the story in this first book is fantastic and sets the stage for the rest of this series. Are you holding out like I was? Do yourself a favor and dive in. You won't regret it! Favorite Quote: ““I threw myself into that fire, threw myself into it, into him, and let myself burn.”

  • Lovelight Farms, B.K. Borison

Story Blurb Two best friends fake date to reach their holiday happily ever after in this first romantic comedy in the Lovelight series. A pasture of dead trees. A hostile takeover of the Santa barn by a family of raccoons. And shipments that have mysteriously gone missing. Lovelight Farms is not the magical winter wonderland of Stella Bloom’s dreams. In an effort to save the Christmas tree farm she’s loved since she was a kid, Stella enters a contest with Instagram-famous influencer Evelyn St. James. With the added publicity and the $100,000 cash prize, Stella might just be able to save the farm from its financial woes. There’s just one problem. To make the farm seem like a romantic destination for the holidays, she lied on her application and said she owns Lovelight Farms with her boyfriend. Only…there is no boyfriend. Enter best friend Luka Peters. He just stopped by for some hot chocolate and somehow got a farm and a serious girlfriend in the process. But fake dating his best friend might be the best Christmas present he’s ever received. My Thoughts/Opinion I unwittingly saved my favorite Christmas read for last. And, while I have mentioned before that friends to lovers isn't my favorite trope, I have to say that this is by far THE BEST friends to lovers I have EVER read. Oh my gosh, what a swoony, lovely book. If you have time to pick this one up this holiday season, I promise you won't be disappointed!! Favorite Quote: “I’m going to love her in all the quiet ways, the slow ways, the loud and obnoxious ways. My heart has been moving steadily in that direction since she fell down the steps of a hardware store, right into my arms.”

  • The Christmas Pact, Meg Easton

Story Blurb Noelle Allred used to love Christmas, but not anymore. Not since her gran-gran passed away a year ago. She’s completely skipping Christmas this year. Jack Meadows has always skipped Christmas. But his sister is a single mom going through cancer treatments this Christmas, and she wants Jack to make the season magical for her son. Jack can’t stand Christmas, but he’d do anything for his nephew. So he seeks help from Noelle, his employee and the woman he’s secretly been in love with for a year and a half. Spending time with her is risky, but it’ll be fine because he’d never let his feelings about her be known. He’s her boss, so a relationship is entirely off the table. No matter how desperate for help her good-looking but very Grinch-like boss seems, Christmas is too much for Noelle. But everything changes when a mysterious package shows up on Noelle’s doorstep with a postmark of North Pole, Alaska, that is somehow from her gran-gran, and she agrees to help Jack. As Noelle and Jack show his nephew all the Christmas magic a tight-knit community provides, along with the magic of Noelle’s large, loving, and very enthusiastic Christmas-celebrating family, sparks fly and they can’t deny their attraction for each other. Can they overcome the seemingly insurmountable obstacle standing in the way of their relationship? My Thoughts/Opinion This book was exactly what I was looking for in a Christmas read. Totally a Hallmark movie in paperback form. Both Noelle and Jack have some healing to do, but they put aside their own issues for the sake of Jack's young nephew. And, my goodness, her family had some holiday traditions I'd love to incorporate into my own family! The magic of the season never fails, and this book left me with all the good feelings I had hoped for. Favorite Quote: She was so beautiful. He'd known it for a long time. But now he understood how much of her beauty came from the person she was on the inside, shining through for all to see.

  • Nick and Noel's Christmas Playlist, Codi Hall

Story Blurb Nick Winter is just out of the military, and his Christmas homecoming is not going as planned. What was supposed to be a memorable holiday with his long-time girlfriend goes sour when he learns she cheated on him while he was stationed overseas. At least Nick can rely on his usual shift at the family Christmas tree farm with his best friend, Noel Carter, and her endless supply of Christmas tunes to lift his spirits. A night of fun together is just what he needs to forget about his ex. But then they kiss. And it feels...so right. If Noel can turn Nick's Blue Christmas merry and bright, this might be the last Christmas Nick spends with a broken heart. This year, they'll be Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree as a couple—as long as Nick's ex doesn't go standing under any mistletoe. My Thoughts/Opinion I feel like the story blurb for this book is a little misleading. As it turns out, Noel's history is much more complicated than it appears. I wasn't her biggest fan, to be honest. Nick and Noel have been friends for ever, though. And now that Nick is home for good, doors are opening they never expected. As with most friends-to-lovers stories, I find the tension a little difficult to sustain. There was some great banter though, and some fun side characters that kept me entertained. Favorite Quote: History. Chemistry. All the subjects she'd hated in high school were coming back to haunt her now.

  • The Christmas Fix, Lucy Score

Story Blurb She’ll save Christmas just to spite him… There’s only one thing standing in the way of Cat King saving a small town’s Christmas festival: Grumpy town manager Noah Yates. Single dad Noah takes his responsibilities seriously. When a late season hurricane turns Merry, Connecticut, into a disaster, he’s left scrambling to pick up the pieces of the town he loves. At least, until home renovation expert and smoking hot reality TV star Catalina King arrives with a camera crew and a budget big enough to put the town back together again. But Noah doesn’t want a celebrity diva capitalizing on their tragedyorfilling his daughter’s head with visions of glitz and glam. Blonde bombshell Cat is used to being underestimated, but Noah has an uncanny knack for getting under her skin. They can’t be in a room together without rubbing each other the wrong way…except that time in the dark alley where the rubbing was just right. Can these enemies work together to pull off a Christmas miracle or will their fighting leave them both on the naughty list? My Thoughts/Opinion I can't think of anyone who does grumpy/sunshine better than Lucy Score. I loved Cat from Mr. Fixer Upper, and it was so much fun to read her bulldoze her way to get what she wants. And she drags Noah into her shenanigans kicking and screaming, which is so good for him. This was my first Christmas read of the season and the perfect story to get me in the spirit! Favorite Quote: “You're the color in a gray day. I don't know how else to describe it. I look at you, and I see all this passion and joy and fun and excitement. I've never met anyone like you."

  • Mr. Fixer-Upper, Lucy Score

Story Blurb He started to work the laces of his boots loose. Toeing them off, he tugged his t-shirt over his head. “Oh my God. What are you doing?” Paige’s voice barely rose above the spray from the showerhead. “I’m washing your damn hair.” It’s a constant battle on set between sexy home renovation reality star grumpy Gannon and his no-nonsense field producer. Paige has zero time for temperamental talent, especially one who acts like being in front of the camera is the last thing he wants. Mr. Sex in a Toolbelt has made it his mission in life to get a rise out of her, but Paige is a master at locking down her temper. They’re on the road together working long hours fixing houses and changing lives. When cracks in her legendary coolness start to show and sparks fly, Gannon is infatuated and the cameras are there to capture it. But he’s fallen for pretty packages before and Paige won’t be taken seriously if she’s caught sleeping with the star of her show. She also can’t seem to resist those big, rough hands. Those smoldery hazel eyes. The dimples. The toolbelt. That fiercely protective vibe. Too bad it’s all about to fall apart. She never should have trusted him. He never should have let her go. My Thoughts/Opinion When I found out that one of my Christmas Season reads was second in a series, of course I had to go read this book first. And, since it's Lucy Score, I knew I'd enjoy it. Truth be told, I thought the conflict was a little thin. But I love a grumpy hero who knows what he wants, especially when what he wants is the heroine. Lucy's one of the best with witty banter, and this book was no different. Favorite Quote: “Here's your first bit of family business. I'm in love with Paige here, but she won't give me the time of day. So I'm going to be wearing her down during the course of this shoot, and I'd appreciate you all singing my praises to her."

  • Yellowface, R. F. Kuang

Story Blurb White lies. Dark humor. Deadly consequences… Bestselling sensation Juniper Song is not who she says she is, she didn’t write the book she claims she wrote, and she is most certainly not Asian American—in this chilling and hilariously cutting novel from R.F. Kuang, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Babel. Authors June Hayward and Athena Liu were supposed to be twin rising stars. But Athena’s a literary darling. June Hayward is literally nobody. Who wants stories about basic white girls, June thinks. So when June witnesses Athena’s death in a freak accident, she acts on impulse: she steals Athena’s just-finished masterpiece, an experimental novel about the unsung contributions of Chinese laborers during World War I. So what if June edits Athena’s novel and sends it to her agent as her own work? So what if she lets her new publisher rebrand her as Juniper Song—complete with an ambiguously ethnic author photo? Doesn’t this piece of history deserve to be told, whoever the teller? That’s what June claims, and the New York Times bestseller list seems to agree. But June can’t get away from Athena’s shadow, and emerging evidence threatens to bring June’s (stolen) success down around her. As June races to protect her secret, she discovers exactly how far she will go to keep what she thinks she deserves. My Thoughts/Opinion June Hayward is a classic narcissist and while I thought I would be rooting against her for what she'd done (and I was rooting against her), I was still in constant anxiety (in the best way) waiting for the moment when the other shoe would drop. The writing was fantastic and kept me invested throughout the entire story. Although this book was outside of my normal genres, I would highly recommend it! Favorite Quote: “Every writer I know feels this way about someone else. Writing is such a solitary activity. You have no assurance that what you’re creating has any value, and any indication that you’re behind in the rat race sends you spiraling into the pits of despair. Keep your eyes on your own paper, they say. But that’s hard to do when everyone else’s papers are flapping constantly in your face.”

  • Iron Flame, Rebecca Yarros

Story Blurb “The first year is when some of us lose our lives. The second year is when the rest of us lose our humanity.” —Xaden Riorson Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College—Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves. Although Violet’s body might be weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she still has her wits—and a will of iron. And leadership is forgetting the most important lesson Basgiath has taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules. But a determination to survive won’t be enough this year. Because Violet knows the real secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War College—and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end. My Thoughts/Opinion I've been anticipating this book for months and it did NOT disappoint. I love Violet, Xaden, and the whole cast of supporting characters. This book was so action-packed, I went back and read it again after the initial readthrough and it still felt like I was drinking from a fire hose. I LOVED it. Can't wait for the third book in this five book series. Rebecca might be willing to rip out the hearts of her readers, but she has yet to disappoint. Favorite Quote: "My house. My chair. My woman."

  • Hopeless, Elsie Silver

Story Blurb Beau Eaton is the town prince, a handsome military hero with a tortured past. I'm the outcast bartender, a shy girl from the wrong side of the tracks. He's thirty-five and all man, I'm twenty-two and all . . . virgin. He's also my fiancé. Correction: my fake fiancé. We start out as a bet. He doesn't believe that anyone holds my last name against me. So he offers me his to prove a point. It's a win-win. He gets a break from his concerned family's prying, and I get a chance to shed my family's reputation while I save up to ditch this small town. He says all I have to do is wear his ring, follow his lead, and pretend I can't keep my hands off of him in public. But it's what happens between us in private that blurs all those carefully drawn lines . . . It's what transpires behind closed doors that doesn't feel like pretending at all . . . This engagement was supposed to be for show. This agreement? It has an end date. He once told me he'd never fall in love. And yet here I am, head over heels for my fake fiancé. My Thoughts/Opinion This was the fifth and final book in Elsie Silver's Chestnut Springs series and it did not disappoint! Through the other books, Beau was at times funny, at times lost, and at times broken. I love that he had to redefine who he is and what he really wants out of life. Bailey has spent her life fighting against peoples preconceptions. She knows what she wants and will do whatever it takes to achieve it. Together, Beau and Bailey travel on a journey of growth that neither expected. Such a rewarding read. Loved it! Favorite Quote: "If we're struggling, we're still in motion, yeah? Heading somewhere better. That's what I keep telling myself anyway."
