  • Private Property, Skye Warren

Story Blurb When I signed up for the nanny agency, I didn't expect a remote mansion on a windswept cliff. Or a brooding billionaire. His brother's death means he's the guardian of a moody seven-year-old-girl. She's lashing out at the world, but I can handle her. I have to. I need the money to finish my college degree. As long as I can avoid the boss who alternately mocks me and coaxes me to reveal my darkest secrets. My Thoughts/Opinion This age-gap story features a naive young girl and an alpha-hole billionaire recluse who is responsible for his niece, hence the need for a nanny. I struggled to relate to the characters and the plot was extremely thin. However, the hardest part of this read for me was that it ends in a cliffhanger with no advance warning. This is such a frustrating thing for me, it discourages me from reading anything else by the author. Favorite Quote: “I can’t be angry.” She can’t be angry because there’s not enough space in her life for that. There’s only survival.

  • Love and Other Words, Christina Lauren

Story Blurb After a decade apart, childhood sweethearts reconnect by chance in New York Times bestselling author Christina Lauren’s touching, romantic novel Love and Other Words…how many words will it take for them to figure out where it all went wrong? The story of the heart can never be unwritten. Macy Sorensen is settling into an ambitious if emotionally tepid routine: work hard as a new pediatrics resident, plan her wedding to an older, financially secure man, keep her head down and heart tucked away. But when she runs into Elliot Petropoulos—the first and only love of her life—the careful bubble she’s constructed begins to dissolve. Once upon a time, Elliot was Macy’s entire world—growing from her gangly bookish friend into the man who coaxed her heart open again after the loss of her mother...only to break it on the very night he declared his love for her. Told in alternating timelines between Then and Now, teenage Elliot and Macy grow from friends to much more—spending weekends and lazy summers together in a house outside of San Francisco devouring books, sharing favorite words, and talking through their growing pains and triumphs. As adults, they have become strangers to one another until their chance reunion. Although their memories are obscured by the agony of what happened that night so many years ago, Elliot will come to understand the truth behind Macy’s decade-long silence, and will have to overcome the past and himself to revive her faith in the possibility of an all-consuming love. My Thoughts/Opinion I've read many Christina Lauren books, mostly rom-com, mostly light and fun. Then there was this book. Poignant. Full of broken hearts and grief. Healing and second chances. This book felt soft to me, mostly, with some jagged, rough edges. It read really quickly, but left me satisfied and hopeful for our hero and heroine. Favorite Quote: “You broke up with her last night?” He nods … “You’re the love of my life. I assumed I would get over you eventually, but seeing you yesterday?” He shakes his head. “I couldn’t go home to someone else and pretend to love her with everything I have.”

  • A Court of Silver Flames, Sarah J. Maas

Story Blurb Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she's struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. Worse, she can't seem to move past the horrors of the war with Hybern and all she lost in it. The one person who ignites her temper more than any other is Cassian, the battle-scarred warrior whose position in Rhysand and Feyre's Night Court keeps him constantly in Nesta's orbit. But her temper isn't the only thing Cassian ignites. The fire between them is undeniable, and only burns hotter as they are forced into close quarters with each other. Meanwhile, the treacherous human queens who returned to the Continent during the last war have forged a dangerous new alliance, threatening the fragile peace that has settled over the realms. And the key to halting them might very well rely on Cassian and Nesta facing their haunting pasts. Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance-and healing-in each other's arms. My Thoughts/Opinion Nesta was easy to dislike in the earlier books of this series. But I knew, I just KNEW, she would have a redemption arc to beat all redemption arcs. And boy was I right! This book was everything. Both she and Cassian had their own trauma to work through, but their chemistry was undeniable. And Cassian, noble fierce Cassian, man there's nothing better than an wholly Alpha Male in sacrificial love. I told a good friend half-way through that I was certain this would be one of those books where I wished I could read it again for the first time. Beautifully written, so many story lines, all so intricately and expertly interwoven. I think what I love most though is all of the open threads that are waiting to be tied up in future books in this series. Thank goodness, because I'm not ready to say goodbye to this group of friends and family. Favorite Quote: “Cassian leaned to whisper in her ear, “The first time I saw that look on your face, you were still human. Still human, and I nearly went to my knees before you.”

  • A Court of Frost and Starlight, Sarah J. Maas

Story Blurb Feyre, Rhysand, and their friends are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly altered world beyond, recovering from the war that changed everything. But Winter Solstice is finally approaching, and with it, the joy of a hard-earned reprieve. Yet even the festive atmosphere can't keep the shadows of the past from looming. As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, her concern for those dearest to her deepens. They have more wounds than she anticipated-scars that will have a far-reaching impact on the future of their court. Bridging the events of A Court of Wings and Ruin with the later books in the series, A Court of Frost and Starlight explores the far-reaching effects of a devastating war and the fierce love between friends. My Thoughts/Opinion I know some people find this book "less than" the others in this series, but I appreciated so much the breath I was able to take while reading it. Enjoying this story comes down to being invested in these characters and whether or not you want a glimpse into their lives behind the scenes of a major plot line. I loved how this book set up the next in series while allowing me to connect in POV with multiple major characters. Favorite Quote: “And in the end, though, we'd saved each other. All of us had.”

  • A Court of Mist and Fury, Sarah J. Maas

Story Blurb Feyre has undergone more trials than one human woman can carry in her heart. Though she's now been granted the powers and lifespan of the High Fae, she is haunted by her time Under the Mountain and the terrible deeds she performed to save the lives of Tamlin and his people. As her marriage to Tamlin approaches, Feyre's hollowness and nightmares consume her. She finds herself split into two different people: one who upholds her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court, and one who lives out her life in the Spring Court with Tamlin. While Feyre navigates a dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms. She might just be the key to stopping it, but only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future-and the future of a world in turmoil. My Thoughts/Opinion Oh my. As much as I loved the first book, this one eclipsed it by a wide margin. Holy cow, I devoured this book. Feyre and her growth. Rhysand. Tamlin. Wow. Just Wow. I refuse to give spoilers, so suffice to say, I am in love with this epic story and all of the secondary characters that come in to play. So good!! Favorite Quote: “He thinks he'll be remembered as the villain in the story. But I forgot to tell him that the villain is usually the person who locks up the maiden and throws away the key. He was the one who let me out.”

  • A Court of Wings and Ruin, Sarah J. Maas

Story Blurb Feyre has returned to the Spring Court, determined to gather information on Tamlin's actions and learn what she can about the invading king threatening to bring her land to its knees. But to do so she must play a deadly game of deceit. One slip could bring doom not only for Feyre, but for everything-and everyone-she holds dear. As war bears down upon them all, Feyre endeavors to take her place amongst the High Fae of the land, balancing her struggle to master her powers-both magical and political-and her love for her court and family. Amidst these struggles, Feyre and Rhysand must decide whom to trust amongst the cunning and lethal High Lords, and hunt for allies in unexpected places. In this thrilling third book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from Sarah J. Maas, the fate of Feyre's world is at stake as armies grapple for power over the one thing that could destroy it. My Thoughts/Opinion This book was the culmination of a waging war. Or at least I think so. We'll see I guess. The most epic of the three from a war perspective, and from a romantic perspective. I am 1000% here for both so this book jumped to my favorite. Favorite Quote: “It's a rare person to face who they are and not run from it - not be broken by it.”

  • A Court of Thorns and Roses, Sarah J. Maas

Story Blurb When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a terrifying creature arrives to demand retribution. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she knows about only from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not truly a beast, but one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled her world. At least, he's not a beast all the time. As she adapts to her new home, her feelings for the faerie, Tamlin, transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But something is not right in the faerie lands. An ancient, wicked shadow is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it, or doom Tamlin-and his world-forever. My Thoughts/Opinion I held out for quite some time before reading this series. Why? I don't know. Maybe I was afraid it was over hyped. I'm kicking myself now. This world is so incredibly written and the story in this first book is fantastic and sets the stage for the rest of this series. Are you holding out like I was? Do yourself a favor and dive in. You won't regret it! Favorite Quote: ““I threw myself into that fire, threw myself into it, into him, and let myself burn.”

  • Lovelight Farms, B.K. Borison

Story Blurb Two best friends fake date to reach their holiday happily ever after in this first romantic comedy in the Lovelight series. A pasture of dead trees. A hostile takeover of the Santa barn by a family of raccoons. And shipments that have mysteriously gone missing. Lovelight Farms is not the magical winter wonderland of Stella Bloom’s dreams. In an effort to save the Christmas tree farm she’s loved since she was a kid, Stella enters a contest with Instagram-famous influencer Evelyn St. James. With the added publicity and the $100,000 cash prize, Stella might just be able to save the farm from its financial woes. There’s just one problem. To make the farm seem like a romantic destination for the holidays, she lied on her application and said she owns Lovelight Farms with her boyfriend. Only…there is no boyfriend. Enter best friend Luka Peters. He just stopped by for some hot chocolate and somehow got a farm and a serious girlfriend in the process. But fake dating his best friend might be the best Christmas present he’s ever received. My Thoughts/Opinion I unwittingly saved my favorite Christmas read for last. And, while I have mentioned before that friends to lovers isn't my favorite trope, I have to say that this is by far THE BEST friends to lovers I have EVER read. Oh my gosh, what a swoony, lovely book. If you have time to pick this one up this holiday season, I promise you won't be disappointed!! Favorite Quote: “I’m going to love her in all the quiet ways, the slow ways, the loud and obnoxious ways. My heart has been moving steadily in that direction since she fell down the steps of a hardware store, right into my arms.”

  • The Christmas Pact, Meg Easton

Story Blurb Noelle Allred used to love Christmas, but not anymore. Not since her gran-gran passed away a year ago. She’s completely skipping Christmas this year. Jack Meadows has always skipped Christmas. But his sister is a single mom going through cancer treatments this Christmas, and she wants Jack to make the season magical for her son. Jack can’t stand Christmas, but he’d do anything for his nephew. So he seeks help from Noelle, his employee and the woman he’s secretly been in love with for a year and a half. Spending time with her is risky, but it’ll be fine because he’d never let his feelings about her be known. He’s her boss, so a relationship is entirely off the table. No matter how desperate for help her good-looking but very Grinch-like boss seems, Christmas is too much for Noelle. But everything changes when a mysterious package shows up on Noelle’s doorstep with a postmark of North Pole, Alaska, that is somehow from her gran-gran, and she agrees to help Jack. As Noelle and Jack show his nephew all the Christmas magic a tight-knit community provides, along with the magic of Noelle’s large, loving, and very enthusiastic Christmas-celebrating family, sparks fly and they can’t deny their attraction for each other. Can they overcome the seemingly insurmountable obstacle standing in the way of their relationship? My Thoughts/Opinion This book was exactly what I was looking for in a Christmas read. Totally a Hallmark movie in paperback form. Both Noelle and Jack have some healing to do, but they put aside their own issues for the sake of Jack's young nephew. And, my goodness, her family had some holiday traditions I'd love to incorporate into my own family! The magic of the season never fails, and this book left me with all the good feelings I had hoped for. Favorite Quote: She was so beautiful. He'd known it for a long time. But now he understood how much of her beauty came from the person she was on the inside, shining through for all to see.

  • Nick and Noel's Christmas Playlist, Codi Hall

Story Blurb Nick Winter is just out of the military, and his Christmas homecoming is not going as planned. What was supposed to be a memorable holiday with his long-time girlfriend goes sour when he learns she cheated on him while he was stationed overseas. At least Nick can rely on his usual shift at the family Christmas tree farm with his best friend, Noel Carter, and her endless supply of Christmas tunes to lift his spirits. A night of fun together is just what he needs to forget about his ex. But then they kiss. And it feels...so right. If Noel can turn Nick's Blue Christmas merry and bright, this might be the last Christmas Nick spends with a broken heart. This year, they'll be Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree as a couple—as long as Nick's ex doesn't go standing under any mistletoe. My Thoughts/Opinion I feel like the story blurb for this book is a little misleading. As it turns out, Noel's history is much more complicated than it appears. I wasn't her biggest fan, to be honest. Nick and Noel have been friends for ever, though. And now that Nick is home for good, doors are opening they never expected. As with most friends-to-lovers stories, I find the tension a little difficult to sustain. There was some great banter though, and some fun side characters that kept me entertained. Favorite Quote: History. Chemistry. All the subjects she'd hated in high school were coming back to haunt her now.

  • The Christmas Fix, Lucy Score

Story Blurb She’ll save Christmas just to spite him… There’s only one thing standing in the way of Cat King saving a small town’s Christmas festival: Grumpy town manager Noah Yates. Single dad Noah takes his responsibilities seriously. When a late season hurricane turns Merry, Connecticut, into a disaster, he’s left scrambling to pick up the pieces of the town he loves. At least, until home renovation expert and smoking hot reality TV star Catalina King arrives with a camera crew and a budget big enough to put the town back together again. But Noah doesn’t want a celebrity diva capitalizing on their tragedyorfilling his daughter’s head with visions of glitz and glam. Blonde bombshell Cat is used to being underestimated, but Noah has an uncanny knack for getting under her skin. They can’t be in a room together without rubbing each other the wrong way…except that time in the dark alley where the rubbing was just right. Can these enemies work together to pull off a Christmas miracle or will their fighting leave them both on the naughty list? My Thoughts/Opinion I can't think of anyone who does grumpy/sunshine better than Lucy Score. I loved Cat from Mr. Fixer Upper, and it was so much fun to read her bulldoze her way to get what she wants. And she drags Noah into her shenanigans kicking and screaming, which is so good for him. This was my first Christmas read of the season and the perfect story to get me in the spirit! Favorite Quote: “You're the color in a gray day. I don't know how else to describe it. I look at you, and I see all this passion and joy and fun and excitement. I've never met anyone like you."

  • Mr. Fixer-Upper, Lucy Score

Story Blurb He started to work the laces of his boots loose. Toeing them off, he tugged his t-shirt over his head. “Oh my God. What are you doing?” Paige’s voice barely rose above the spray from the showerhead. “I’m washing your damn hair.” It’s a constant battle on set between sexy home renovation reality star grumpy Gannon and his no-nonsense field producer. Paige has zero time for temperamental talent, especially one who acts like being in front of the camera is the last thing he wants. Mr. Sex in a Toolbelt has made it his mission in life to get a rise out of her, but Paige is a master at locking down her temper. They’re on the road together working long hours fixing houses and changing lives. When cracks in her legendary coolness start to show and sparks fly, Gannon is infatuated and the cameras are there to capture it. But he’s fallen for pretty packages before and Paige won’t be taken seriously if she’s caught sleeping with the star of her show. She also can’t seem to resist those big, rough hands. Those smoldery hazel eyes. The dimples. The toolbelt. That fiercely protective vibe. Too bad it’s all about to fall apart. She never should have trusted him. He never should have let her go. My Thoughts/Opinion When I found out that one of my Christmas Season reads was second in a series, of course I had to go read this book first. And, since it's Lucy Score, I knew I'd enjoy it. Truth be told, I thought the conflict was a little thin. But I love a grumpy hero who knows what he wants, especially when what he wants is the heroine. Lucy's one of the best with witty banter, and this book was no different. Favorite Quote: “Here's your first bit of family business. I'm in love with Paige here, but she won't give me the time of day. So I'm going to be wearing her down during the course of this shoot, and I'd appreciate you all singing my praises to her."
